No hunger strike…at this stage
Vadim Kuramshin has decided not to go ahead with a hunger strike planned for 5 November (see article below). His mother told Campaign Kazakhstan, this morning (31 October) that he has been visited in prison by leading prosecutors who informed Vadim that his case will be heard very soon at the Supreme Court.
This is good news for all campaigners and supporters who have been demanding Vadim’s release from prison, with all charges dropped. Their protests and the high profile attention from lawyers internationally is, no doubt, having an effect.
But it is too early for celebrations. Those can only come when Vadim is free. Vigilance is vital. New protests could be necessary, at any time. In fact, letters should still be sent to embassies on Vadim’s behalf and to him, assuring him of worldwide support. (See previous articles on this site.)
